[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Honolulu, Hawaii – Kapolei Charter School (KCS) by Goodwill Hawaii has received a $75,000 grant from the Harold K. L. Castle Foundation to help provide leadership development and training for the newly hired faculty and staff.

“We are grateful to the Harold K. L. Castle Foundation for awarding us this grant and seeing that our vision to provide teacher development and learning opportunities can be achieved,” said Wanda Villareal, school director of Kapolei Charter School. “We believe in fostering the continued professional growth of our faculty so that they can bring new skills to the classroom to help our students succeed.”

KCS is a new tuition free public charter high school in West Kapolei that will focus on college and career readiness to prepare students for success during and after high school. Each student will be assigned an academic life coach who will help them to establish and follow a personalized education plan that meets their individual needs and goals. The life coach will also help students navigate and overcome any challenges to ensure their academic success.
In addition to funding teacher training opportunities, the grant will also help support the development of KCS’s industry certification program and the construction of career pathway maps that will help students to identify and pursue the training, credentials and/or education needed to obtain a job in their chosen field.

KCS still has space available for its inaugural 9th grade class and is currently enrolling students through July until all 100 spaces are filled. Applications are available online at www.kcshawaii.org or at the school campus located at Goodwill Hawaii’s Ohana Career and Learning Center at 2140 Lauwiliwili Street in Kapolei. The first day of instruction is set for August 7.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row][vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]
